Periodontal Treatment

What Is Periodontitis?

Periodontitis, also referred to as periodontal disease, is an oral disease caused by infection in the soft tissue and bone supporting the teeth. This results in receding gums and damage to the bone structure, which eventually leads to tooth loss if not treated properly.

If you believe that you may suffer from periodontal disease, it’s important to make an appointment at McCormack Dental right away. With the right treatment plan and improvements in oral hygiene, you may save your teeth.

Nonsurgical Periodontal Treatment

If your periodontal condition isn’t severe enough for surgery, you may need a procedure known as scaling and planing. This is a deep cleaning that removes plaque, tartar and other inflammatory toxins from the surface of your teeth and the supporting bone structure. This is often enough to stop the progression of periodontitis if the condition is caught fast enough. In some cases, antibiotics are also used to eliminate infection from the gums.

Surgical Periodontal Treatment

If your periodontal disease wasn’t treated properly early on, you may need surgical intervention. Don’t allow anxiety over this possibility to stop you from treating your gums and teeth quickly. The longer you wait to seek treatment, the more likely you are to need surgery.

If you do need periodontal therapy, our dedicated team will work to keep you comfortable from the initial examination through recovery. We customize our services to meet your needs, and we take our time to listen to your concerns and help you select the best treatments for your smile, your health and your budget.
